𝐌𝐮𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐢𝐧, 𝑽𝒆𝒓𝒃𝒂𝒔𝒄𝒖𝒎 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒑𝒔𝒖𝒔

𝐌𝐮𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐢𝐧'𝐬 towering stalks of yellow flowers are stunning. Its ability to comfort a cough is magical and it is praised for its ability to ease an earache. This fuzzy, silvery herb has some powerful and well-established medicinal properties making it a wonderful choice for teas, tinctures and oils. 𝐌𝐮𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐢𝐧, 𝑽𝒆𝒓𝒃𝒂𝒔𝒄𝒖𝒎 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒑𝒔𝒖𝒔 is a vibrantly colored, cheerful flower and can be used topically or internally. All parts of the plant are used (flower, root, leaf.)

𝐎𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐍𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐬: Common Mullein, Hag’s Taper, Torches, Graveyard Dust, Velvet Dock, Candlewick Plant, Our Lady’s Flannel, Bullock’s Lungwort, Golden Rod, Felt Wort and Old Man’s Flannel.

𝐄𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐬: flowers: cool, moist; roots: warm, dry; leaves: cool, moist

𝐔𝐬𝐞𝐬: Mullein has a host of medicinal uses. It relaxes and soothes lungs, calms asthma, quells a cough, strengthens bladder muscles, relieves joint pain, arthritis and back pain, eases earaches, soothes hemorrhoids.

𝐇𝐞𝐫𝐛𝐚𝐥 𝐀𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬: Demulcent, lymphatic, relaxant, modulates inflammation, antiviral

𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬: Mullein is used in tea, herbal infusions, decoctions (roots), tinctures, macerated in oil for topical applications and even smoked.

We use Mullein in many of our preparations such as our Breathe Easy Herbal Tea. Mullein most certainly belongs in your herbal medicine chest.

𝐌𝐚𝐠𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐔𝐬𝐞𝐬 & 𝐅𝐨𝐥𝐤𝐥𝐨𝐫𝐞: Mullein was believed to have protective properties and was capable of warding off evil spirits. It was hung over doors, windows, and carried in sachets. Witches used oil lamps to illuminate their spells — the leaves and stems of mullein were used as the wicks. Graveyard dust, as needed in some spells, can be substituted with powdered mullein leaves.
